Help ICM save lives!
Among the ultra-poor families that ICM serves, one of every 5 children suffers from malnutrition. The tragedy of chronic hunger greatly increases the chances that young children will die. Severely malnourished children are 9 times more likely to die because they aren't getting the nutrition they need.
ICM's 16-week Transform program provides families with nutritious food to ensure their children achieve a healthy weight. Parents are also taught the importance of good nutrition, especially during the first five years of a child’s development. They learn which foods can best provide nutrients that growing children need and are given assistance to grow their own vegetables.
Children who are still underweight at week eight of ICM's Transform program are enrolled in Home Based Feeding (HBF), an intensive feeding regimen that provides daily packs of nutritional food (Nutripacks). These children are closely monitored until they reach a healthy weight. 95% of the children enrolled in this program achieve normal weight.
In 2015-2016, ICM aims to feed 1,500 malnourished children in ultrapoor communities.
