In the Philippines, diarrhea is the fourth leading cause of death among children under five. This, along with a host of other communicable diseases, puts ultrapoor families at risk every day.
Every dollar pledged in March up to $400,000HKD for Treatment Packs will be matched by Joe and his family, read his story below.
TREATMENT PACKS
We have the opportunity to positively impact the health of thousands of people across the Philippines.Treatment Packs are easily administrable, low-cost health solutions that cure common illnesses and, in many cases, save lives.
When cases are discovered, health trainers deliver Treatment Packs to those in need, ensuring proper care and follow up with future community visits. Health education classes that emphasize prevention and proper treatment of common illnesses are also provided.
Each $10,000HKD raised can
- rescue 7 children from malnutrition,
- ensure 15 safe deliveries for mothers,
- save 65 children from diarrhea,
- deworm 3,750 children or
- allow 1,250 people to idenitfy and treat tuberculosis..
JOE'S STORY
My name is Joe Walsh and I am learning that there is an immediate need and that the key to hope is empathy with people.
Part of this journey was the opportunity to visit families in the Philippines impacted by ultrapoverty. There I got to see how our immediate action brings great relief to helpless people who may not make it another day.
Because I know what we cannot all experience and see these pressing needs daily, I want to share that we can empathize - allow ourselves to feel what they feel, taking upon some of their pain, suffering, desires and hopes. When I open up my heart to feel just some of the pain, I am joyful as I remember that we each have the ability, talent and resources to make another’s path better.
My son, his wife and I would like to invite you on this journey of giving with a challenge to meet a critical need and bring life to others. We may not get to see them, but our hearts can reach out to them to feel both their suffering and their healing. You can read some of their stories or see photos on the Updates and Media tabs.
Thank you for joining us.
